Night On the Galactic Railroad

Night on the Galactic Railroad Theatrical release poster

It's kind of an obscure anime movie that I liked a lot as a kid (partially because it has cat people and if it isn't apparent by now I kind of tend to gravitate towards funny talking cat people)

Came for the anthro cat people, stayed for the gutwrenching love story (regardless if you read it as a queer romance or not, it's compelling enough that in my opinion it could go either way).

You can read about it on Wikipedia Here. Unfortunately Youtube's taken down the sub / dubbed version of it and has it set so you can get it through crunchyroll (and given how crunchyroll's been I'd say it'd be better to pirate it / get it outright on dvd or something if reasonably possible).

I do also have a soft spot for the OST (also kind of difficult to get ahold of), done by Haruomi Hosono, who made some good music and is notable also for doing some stellar compositions (as well as Yellow Magic Orchestra, but that's a side tangent for another day).

Nonetheless it's weirdly enough one of the few pieces of media to have a profound effect on me, and I really ought to get my hands on a copy of a translation of the original book (the book will likely not have cat people, I know enough about the movie to know that it was a deliberate stylistic choice and that the book it's just regular humans).

I also ought to make a page that's just "The Media that very specifically had profound effects on me (for both good and ill)".
