Salmonids!
Boss Salmonids
Big Shot
- Medium to high priority
- Don't let them sit for too long! they'll throw wave breakers that will chip away at your health (they'll splat ya in two so be sure to jump!)
- They're beefy so anything that deals a lot of damage does best
- Their egg canons can be used to chuck eggs closer to the basket! don't be afraid to take advantage of it, even if they're not dead
Drizzler
- Medium to high priority
- Take them out because they'll bring inky rain, which will hamper your mobility
- You can hit them while they're in the air but you gotta be a good shot since the umbrella counts as a shield
- Their rain missile can be popped or redirected before it activates, try to get those if you can!
Fish Stick
- Medium priority
- They will continuously ink a small area around them, which can hinder movement fast if left alone
- Reccomended weapons - blasters take them out fast
- Their sticks can be used as high ground for things like snipers but while most can't reach that high, Maws can swim up them and flyfish aren't hindered by the ground.
Flipper-Flopper
- Medium / low priority. Don't let too many of them be active but it's not as high as a flyfish
- Can be baited / led to the egg basket, take advantage of this!
- Reccomended weapons - blasters, some shooters, Brushes and Rollers are best; whatever can ink a lot of turf fast
Flyfish
- Highest priority - they will ruin your shift fast if left alone
- If left to own devices they will spam tenta missiles!
- Reccomended weapons: Bombs, Crab Tank, Exploshers, mainly either bombs or anything with bomb-properties
- If you have an explosher, just lob with that into the missile spots since those also count as bombs!
- if possible to communicate, always let others know they're out and try to get at least one of their launchers if not both done fast.
- Of the two launchers they have, try to get your bombs into the Blue one first at higher levels, since that will force them to only target one player at a time rather than multiple. YMMV as far as clearing them at higher levels but if you can't get both in a go at least go for the blue cooler rather than the red one!
Goldie
- Medium priority
- They're just like a chum / small fry but if ya see one, grab it since they carry a LOT of eggs. Not particularly dangerous in any regard but if ya get one they'll spit out at least 5-6 or so eggs compared to the average boss's 3.
- Uusally can be found in special sub-events (glowflies / fog / gushers)
Griller
- Special event salmonid
- They can overwhelm you fast by the amount of smallfry they deploy, it's recommended that you have someone on hand to make sure they're clearing those out fast. I see more people wipeout because nobody's keeping the smallfry down than because of a griller passing over them.
- Do NOT be caught directly under them, that's an instant splash (being on a wall will not save you here; if they pass over you, you splat)
- If possible, funnel them into a spot, since they only have the one weakspot on the back that you gotta hit before all the others pop out.
- High egg yield
- Anything with sufficiently high DPS or High damage output is reccomended for these salmonids
Maws
- Low to Moderate Priority
- They'll swim under the water but you will see a warning before they pop up
- They can be baited / lured to the egg basket! don't be afraid to utilize that.
- Reccomendation: Either toss a bomb in their warning circle before they pop up or if you have a particularly high DPS You can get them while they're up, but bombs are best
Mothership
- Special event salmonid
- Usually hangs out in the air but Watch Out! They will head over to the egg basket and try to vacuum up all the eggs out of it.
- If you see one latched on to the egg basket, shoot it until it pops off!
- Let others know if the Mothership is moving in on the basket! it's faster and easier to take out as a group than by one's self
Mudmouths / Golden Mudmouths
- Special event salmonid
- Bombs are best, toss them in their mouths before they spit out too many Chums / Smallfry / Cohocks.
- The golden ones have high egg yield but spit out cohocks, prioritize those over other mudmouths if possible
Scrapper
- Medium priority
- They ride around in funny little cars! The funny little cars can one-shot you if you're in their direct path
- Ya gotta shoot them until their car breaks down, circle round the back, and then shoot that
- You can also alternatively just shoot them from the back, as their tailfins aren't protected
- They will target one person at a time, and that will change to whoever damaged them last / the most recent so be mindful of if you're "it" or not.
- They can be lured towards the egg basket but don't let too many of them drive around the map!
Slammin' Lid
- Medium-low priority
- They will spawn common salmonids out from under them and they have a protective forcefield under them that protects them
- The best thing and the worst thing is that if they detect an inkling or octoling under them, they will slam down
- Other salmonids are not immune to this and will be splatted (all common and most if not all boss salmonids can if they fit under the lid height)
- This will not splat a Cohozuna, so as tempting as it is, don't try to use these to splat Cohozunas or other King Salmonids.
- You can use these as crowd control as well as ride up on them / shoot them in the air (they will grab a soup ladle and whack you off after a certain point unless ya jump). Can be handy for getting the high ground on Steelheads
- You can leave them to their own devices but just be sure not to leave too many of them out and about.
Steel Eel
- Priority is dependent on situation
- For most situations it's medium low, on high tide it's high priority
- They can be lured to the egg basket so take advantage of that but be considerate due to their length
- They have a pretty big ink wall that you can't shoot across, but shoot at the driver who's at the back of the eel!
- They will only follow around one player, but unlike Scrappers due to their length if you're "it", lead them on a goose chase away from other players
- If you do happen to have reefslider, reefsliders can pass completely under them w/o harming you
Steelhead
- Low Priority
- Just be mindful of their lobbing, they have bad and slow movement and can't attack anything immediately infront of them
- Their weakspot is the bomb on their head, as they're loading it up you can ink it and cause it to explode in their faces!
- They will target only one player at a time (and usually one that is not high up)! take advantage of this!
- Recommended weapons - Chargers, Sloshers, Some Blasters, some shooters and dualies (for blasters / shooters / dualies they have to be on the longer range; short range weapons can't reach the bomb on their heads).
- Don't leave too many of them out and about.
Stinger
- High Priority - They will only target one player (the one farthest away from them), but their stingray pierces so everyone on shift could really feel it.
- They are very tall! Even if you have a charger, you have to remove their pot-stack. They sit on the throne of gods and this grants them immunity until that is removed.
- Recommendation - Anything that has a wide area of attack or is sufficiently fast! Brushes and splatana-type weapons are the way to go. Blasters also have a lot of utility against these Salmonids. Some Sloshers (particularly the sloshing machine, Bloblobber, and explosher if you're really good with slosher-types) also are good for this.
