Trip World!
Tripworld is a little gem of a game boy game
Made by Sunsoft and released on November 27th, 1992 in japan and in Europe the following year, it is a very fun (though very short) little game.
It was briefly re-released for Nintendo 3DS on virtual console, as well as having a remastered version known as Trip World DX (Wish i'd gotten it when it was being ran by limited run games, does not seem like there's going to be a PC release unless you go about pirating / emulating the game).
It follows the story of Yakopoo through five stages trying to recollect the stolen Flower of Peace (as without it the inhabitants of trip world turn mad and become the enemies you face).
Yakopoo is fun to play as, partially because they can shapeshift between three differing primary forms as well as a couple of more specialty forms through power ups.
It's fascinating because it came o ut roughly the same time Kirby did but between the two Kirby really took off while trip world kind of didn't.
The game also has a bangin' soundtrack which is great to listen to.
Yakopoo only really has four health points so the difficulty of the game is mostly trying to make sure that you don't get too beat up while progressing through the linear stages.
to quote the game's wikipedia article on the general plot synopsis
"The game is set in Trip World, a peaceful world where Yakopoo lives. He is a young member of the Shabubu race of bunny-like beings. Yakopoo lives with his grandfather, an old Shabubu, on the holy mountain known as Mount Dubious, where the Maita Flower is found. The named flower is the flower of peace and is deemed to have supernatural powers. Because of this, it is usually protected by Yakopoo's grandpa, so that it won't fall in the wrong hands. However, one day mysterious shadowy creatures appear, attack Yakopoo's grandfather and steal the flower of peace."
